Trade Directory Information.
A task I undertook in 2009 was to read through all of the
Dublin trade directories held by The National library of Ireland and the Pearse
Library. This objective I completed in June, 2011 having enjoyed numerous visits
to my favourite city.
Although the Pigot’s Directory of 1824 list’s most tradesmen
under a heading of their trade, the earlier directories are listed by name
alphabetically and therefore it is a matter of going through each line and page
to find those listed as gunmakers/gunsmiths.
Many of these collated years have been published
through this blog but not all. Should anyone require sight of any one given year
we would be pleased to send these details or publish on our pages.
What was evident from our findings was that the doyen
of our subject, M.S Dudley-Westropp had trodden these paths before and his list
of gunmakers/gunsmiths published in the Journal of the Arms and Armour Journal
in 1957 contained the majority of the major gunmakers/gunsmith trading
throughout the 18th century.
Example: Trade Directory of 1786.

We are always interested in any material related to the early gunmakers of Ireland.
