The Lady Gunmakers. Classic Arms & Militaria Vol XIV Issue 1 written by David Stroud.

 




This was an article I wrote for the Classic Arms and Militaria Magazine and published in January 2007. 
It needs a few corrections as it was later found evident that during the eighteenth century we have proof that women were in fact engaged in many aspects of the gunmaking business and could be considered in many cases equal, if not better,  than their male counterparts!!

A rare gun case bought from County Kildare.

                           One of those special days when a gem turns up in County Kildare. A percussion sporting gun case once housing a Thomas Calderwood gun of c.1835. The trade card states that Calderwood was gunmaker to his Excellency the Lord Lieutenant a position they held with at least two Lord Lieutenant's of Ireland. The Calderwood's traded from 14 North Earl Street, Dublin (1815-1897). We are always interested in buying good quality gun and pistol cases especially those with Irish  provenance. This trade label being extremely rare and in fine condition. One of our  lucky days!!!
