H.Allport or Hallport? Gunmaker Cork.

One day a fellow collector rang me to ask if I had heard of a Cork gunmaker called Hallport? It took me a while to convince him that the name on his pistol was in fact H. Allport (Henry).

Having seen the picture of the pistol I could understand his dilemma (Above).

NB: The damage to the stock at the base of this backaction lock is one of the most common scars we find on this type of action caused by the mainspring breaking or slipping while insertion.

A rare gun case bought from County Kildare.

                           One of those special days when a gem turns up in County Kildare. A percussion sporting gun case once housing a Thomas Calderwood gun of c.1835. The trade card states that Calderwood was gunmaker to his Excellency the Lord Lieutenant a position they held with at least two Lord Lieutenant's of Ireland. The Calderwood's traded from 14 North Earl Street, Dublin (1815-1897). We are always interested in buying good quality gun and pistol cases especially those with Irish  provenance. This trade label being extremely rare and in fine condition. One of our  lucky days!!!
