During the industrial revolution various factory acts were enacted, the first being in 1802 but the regulations relating to moving machinery were not brought into law until 1878. However, these regulations were often flouted or ignored by management and the workforce due to short-cuts in working practices.

A rare gun case bought from County Kildare.

                           One of those special days when a gem turns up in County Kildare. A percussion sporting gun case once housing a Thomas Calderwood gun of c.1835. The trade card states that Calderwood was gunmaker to his Excellency the Lord Lieutenant a position they held with at least two Lord Lieutenant's of Ireland. The Calderwood's traded from 14 North Earl Street, Dublin (1815-1897). We are always interested in buying good quality gun and pistol cases especially those with Irish  provenance. This trade label being extremely rare and in fine condition. One of our  lucky days!!!
